Stone Cold Released From WWE Contract
In a shocking turn of events, it seems that Stone Cold Steve Austin and WWE have parted ways, effective immediately. Austin and WWE were in the midst of negotiations, which seemingly went pretty well, when everything apparently came to a screeching halt. The situation as of today is that Austin has been terminated from his WWE contract.

Here's the official statement (off WWE.Com):

"WWE and Steve Austin part ways

After months of negotiations, the WWE and Steve Austin have been unable to come to terms on a new contract and as a result have mutually agreed to part company.

Both parties have left the door open to work together again in the future and the WWE wishes Steve the very best in his future endeavors."

It is also believed that Austin will now be heading for Japan to work something out with his new buddy Goldberg. It is even rumored that the two might have a match together overseas.

Here's some additional news courtesy of PWTorch.Com:

"The gist of the contract dispute hinged on Austin wanting the right's to the name "Stone Cold", which WWE currently owns. Austin was hoping that Vince would hand it over to Austin out of professional courtesy. Austin had wanted to use the name on some projects outside of wrestling.

There had been thought earlier in the week that both parties (WWE & Austin) were close to reaching a new agreement, but unfortunatley that was not able to be obtained.

The latest word is that Austin and Goldberg have become friends and there are thoughts of them promoting a match against one another to take place in Japan."

Still, this doesn't mean that we've seen the last of Austin as a return to the WWE could be possible in the future. I wouldn't be counting that it would be anytime soon, but at least it is possible. I think I speak for the entire Fiesta Fest Crew when I say that Austin will be missed.
