Results Of 2009 WWE Draft: Who Went Where?
Well, another WWE Draft is in the books, and the WWE landscape has been somewhat altered once again. Then again, does it all really matter these days now that WWE Superstars appear on almost every show anyway? Anyway, on with the results of the Draft..

As always, ECW was left in the cold. Only one draft pick, but then again they only lost one member of their roster as well. RAW got the most picks with six new roster members, with SmackDown! close behind at five picks. Here's what went down:

  • Rey Mysterio defeated Evan Bourne in the first Draft Pick match. This resulted in Montel Vontavious Porter, also known as MVP, being drafted from SmackDown! to RAW. Porter is of course the current United States Champion, which means that title is now a part of RAW.

  • Kane defeated The Brian Kendrick in the second Draft Pick match. This resulted in Big Show being drafted from SmackDown! to RAW.

  • In 6-Diva Tag Team action, the team of Michelle McCool, Maryse and Natalya Neidhart defeated Melina, Mickie James and Kelly Kelly. This resulted in Melina being drafted from RAW to SmackDown!. Melina, being the current Women's Champion, brought that title with her to SmackDown!.

  • Current World Heavyweight Champion John Cena defeated current ECW Champion Jack Swagger in the 4th Draft Pick Match. This match was for 2 picks, resulting in both Matt Hardy and Triple H being drafted to RAW from SmackDown!. Triple H is the current WWE Champion, which means that title is now property of RAW (along with the World title).

  • The Great Khali defeated Santino Marella in the fifth Draft Pick match. This resulted in "Mr. Money in the Bank" CM Punk being drafted from RAW to SmackDown!. Also, per stipulation, it also forced Santino's "twin sister, Santina" to appear on a future Great Khali kiss cam.

  • Kofi Kingston defeated ECW's The Miz by disqualification, when the referee spotted John Morrison interfering on behalf of his former partner. Yes, I said former, as this resulted in The Miz being drafted from ECW to RAW. The Miz also, after shaking hands and hugging, turned on Morrison by hitting him with the Reality Check.

  • Edge outlasted 14 other Superstars in a 15-man Tri Branded Battle Royal match. Other participants included Ricky Ortiz, Paul Burchill, Mike Knox, Chavo Guerrero, Shad of Cryme Tyme, Primo, R-Truth, Tyson Kidd, JTG of Cryme Tyme, Montel Vontavious Porter, Finlay, Mark Henry & the Big Show. Since this match was for 2 Draft Picks, both Kane and Chris Jericho were drafted from RAW to SmackDown!.

  • Christian defeated Shelton Benjamin to win the only Draft Pick for ECW. This resulted in Vladimir Kozlov being drafted from SmackDown! to ECW.

  • Matt Hardy defeated CM Punk in the ninth Draft Pick match. This resulted in Maryse being drafted from SmackDown! to RAW. Maryse, being the current Diva's Champion, brought that title along with her.

  • Chris Jericho defeated Tommy Dreamer in the 10th and final Draft Pick match. This resulted in Rey Mysterio being drafted from RAW to SmackDown!. Mysterio is the current Intercontinental Champion, which means that belt is now part of SmackDown!

All in all, good changes if you ask me. I was hoping something momentous would happen, like Shawn Michaels being drafted to SmackDown! or The Undertaker being drafted to.. ECW or something. Alas, it did not happen. There will of course be a supplemental draft come this Wednesday, but I don't expect anything groundbreaking or shocking will take place there.

So, for those of you keeping score, here's how many each brand won and lost.

    RAW: lost 5, won 6 (+1)
    SmackDown!: lost 6, won 5 (-1)
    ECW: lost 1, won 1 (+-0)

This means RAW ended up the winners of this Draft, SmackDown! being the losers (if only by one pick), and ECW being more or less unchanged. Actually ECW became a lot stronger, in my opinion, by gaining Kozlov in exchange for The Miz. Hopefully Kozlov will be rebuilt, after losing a lot in the last couple of weeks, as a viable contender for the ECW title.

Also, it's interesting to point out that although a lot of titles changed brands, the landscape still remained more or less the same. Both the Women's and Intercontinental titles left RAW for SmackDown!, but RAW also gained the Diva's and United States titles. That's more or less a fair swap I'd suppose, even though the Women's and IC titles hold more credibility.

RAW now holds both the World Heavyweight and WWE Championships, but with title matches coming up in just 2 weeks at Backlash, anything can happen. My guess is that Edge wins back (yet again) the World Heavyweight title from Cena, as the other title match is now (since Triple H was drafted back to RAW) simply a RAW affair. We'll see how this works out soon enough.

More to come following the supplemental draft..
