Joey Mercury Released From WWE Contract

WWE.Com are reporting that Joey Mercury has been released from his contract, effective immediately. At the moment there has been no explanation (official or inofficial) as to why he has been released, but ever since the break-up (and on and off reformations) Mercury has obviously been the "lesser" member of MNM.

Seems that Johnny Nitro and Melina will have to fend for themselves without their former partner from now on, as this will be the end of all the "are MNM still a team or not?" questions.

News courtesy of WWE.Com:

"WWE.com has learned that today in Chicago, WWE officials have agreed on the immediate release of Joey Mercury."

If you ask me, the release of Joey Mercury was rather "unceremonious". No best wishes or "good luck in your future endeavors" kind of deal here, makes me think he did something that didn't sit too well with WWE management.

Could be something that violated their "wellness program", maybe poor ole Mercury was all jacked up on 'roids?

After his god-awful injury at Armageddon '06, I kinda sympathized with Mercury a bit. I think the WWE had a great chance to turn him face, but they decided to still use the "cocky jetsetter" on him. He could have BEEN something. Meh.

And Mercury have been to rehab before, so it's a possibility that it something drug-related.

(BTW, are you gonna put up WM predictions this year, Taco?)

THIS JUST IN! A visit at insidepulse.com got some results:

"There was an incident backstage at Raw this afternoon, which resulted in Joey Mercury being fired and Stephanie McMahon being taken to a local hospital. Details are still coming in, but the early word is that Mercury snapped when the creative team told him that he and his partner Johnny Nitro would not be appearing at Wrestlemania 23. Not much is known, but word is that Mercury charged at Stephanie McMahon, knocking her into the side of a desk. He was immediately restrained by the rest of the creative team, and fired on the spot. Vince McMahon is said to be furious at the harm caused at his daughter, who had to be taken to a Chicago hospital for evaluation. Mercury may face criminal charges and possible jail time if WWE decides to follow through. Dave Meltzer will have much more on this situation as he gets it."

Looks like Mercury is totally boned now.

Tren: Ah, now THAT would explain a lot of things then, especially the fact that they didn't even wish his "the best of luck" in the future, like they usually do to the people they let go.

If this is what actually happened, then I would say that it's very likely that Joey Mercury has burned all his bridges, both current and future, with the WWE. If he snapped for no apparent reason (being left off WrestleMania is no reason, if you ask me), then he definitely deserves to have been fired. He should serve some jail time as well, you just don't do stuff like that. Especially not on the bosses daughter, that's got to be one of the biggest no-no's there is in the WWE.

Ah, ok then. But if it should be true, then it would definitely be a justifiable reason to fire someone I would say. smile

I think it has to be something severe though, since he didn't get the regular "WWE.com treatment" of "good luck in your future endeavors" type of deal. Usually all released wrestlers get that sort of "sympathy" when they're let go, but Mercury didn't somehow. Could just be an oversight, of course, but I get the feeling his release wasn't a mutually amicable one, so to speak.

Just a hunch, though.
